Accounting Society receives high honors

By Adam Casper

It’s very clear that hard work adds up.  The SIUC Accounting Society student chapter was recently given high honors by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).  The Society was named Outstanding Student Chapter, an honor given to only four chapters nationwide.  The schools are recognized as Outstanding Student Chapters by consistently performing at a high level within the “Award of Excellence” program.

The Accounting Society also achieved Gold “Award of Excellence” Status for the second year in a row.  Gold Status student chapters are required to submit an array of material to the IMA for eligibility, including a letter of intent, mission statement, budget allocations, and recorded time spent in meetings. The award requires a student chapter to be highly involved and organized.

These awards are a testament to the students in the Accounting Society as well as the faculty members who have helped the student organization remain so highly regarded by the IMA.

The Accounting Society will be recognized at the IMA’s 90th Annual Conference and Exposition in Denver, CO on June 7.  President Ashley Gibson will be one of the representatives for the Accounting Society, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.
