Professor McKinley joined the College of Business faculty in 1990. Since then, he’s made his mark in research and teaching.

McKinley was a finalist for the Best Paper Award at the 1992 Western Academy of Management Meeting, Spokane, Washington. Plus, he’s was placed on the SIU College of Business Research Honor Roll in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006, and the Teaching Honor Roll in 1993, 1996 and 2003.

In 2006, McKinley taught at the Institut fur Organisation und Unternehmenstheorien, University of Zurich in Switzerland. In 2003, he taught at Institut für betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung (Institute for Management Research), University of Zurich in Switzerland. During the summer of 1997 and the 1998-99 academic year, McKinley was a visiting faculty member at University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany.

McKinley has also held positions at Washington State University, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Cleveland State University.

McKinley researches organizational change; organizational restructuring and downsizing; psychological contracts in organizations; business ideologies; organizational decline and innovation; the history, sociology, and philosophy of organization science.

McKinley earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in French literature, anthropology and organization theory, respectively, from Columbia University.
